The workshirt is made by hand at our atelier in Marrakech. We pay tribute to West African culture using West African fabric, Aso-Oke, to construct this garment also inspired by turn of the 20th century style in America.
Aso-Oke (pronounced: ah-SHAW-okay") is a traditional hand-woven cloth created by the Yoruba people of West Africa. Garments made from this fabric are generally worn for special occasions, befitting to Aso-Oke's English translation: "Top Cloth"; denoting the cloth of high status. Read on our to learn a brief history of Aso-Oke in West Africa and why this is a high status, luxury fabric.
The workshirt jacket silhouette is inspired from the turn of the 20th century style in America. The style was famously worn and most popularly advertised for the working class, including railroad workers, farmers, and ranchers. The modern style workshirt jacket has endured over 100 years.
